Serbian White Eagles Football Club regrets to announce that our former player and coach Dragan “Don” Popovic passed away on September 29, 2025 in St. Louis at the age of 84.

Popovic was born to father Mihailo and mother Milica in Berane on January 1, 1941. He became a professional footballer in 1958 at the age of 17 in Yugoslavia. He was also a player for Red Star Belgrade and Hajduk Split. In 1967, he moved to the United States where he played for the St. Louis Stars in the first National Professional Football League. He also played for the Kansas City Spurs, and then moved to Canada where he played for our club in the Canadian National Football League until 1973. In the same year, he played for the Canadian national team in an exhibition match against Arsenal.

Popovic was also renowned as a coach and became the head coach of our Serbian White Eagles in 1974 and led our team to the Canadian National Football League championship in 1975.

The funeral will take place on October 6 at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery.

We express our condolences to the family of Dragan Popovic as well as our gratitude for everything he did for our club. May God rest his soul.

Our Serbian White Eagles were defeated 1-0 by Scarborough in the CSL Championship Final at Esther Shiner Stadium Sunday evening.

While the match was again a physical encounter and ended with just one goal deciding the winner, it was also one of the most attractive of the season.

It was end-to-end in the early stages until Scarborough midfielder Andy Baquero opened the scoring, forcing the ball from a corner kick into the net from the six-yard line and out of reach of Serbian White Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Gosciniak. The goal came at 36 minutes.

With Scarborough leading 1-0 at the interval, Serbian White Eagles coach Bojan Zoranovic brought substitute former Canadian national team defender Adrian Cann into the game. The second half brought several near misses by the White Eagles, but Scarborough goalkeeper Jose Rodolfo was outstanding and the Toronto east side team held to the final whistle for the victory.

After defeating Unity FC by a score of 6-1 this past Sunday, our Serbian White Eagles have advanced to the CSL Championship Final where we will face rival Scarborough SC. Nikola Timotijevic and MD Iqbal Hussain each scored twice, with Luka Glamcevski and Srdjan Simovic scoring singles for Serbian White Eagles while the lone Unity FC goal was scored by defender Nelson Padillo.

Scarborough defeated Aeem Canada 3-1 in the other semi-final. Both Scarborough and Serbian White Eagles have been in good form this year and their upcoming match-up should be another good one.

The CSL Championship Final is set to kickoff on Sunday September 28 (7:00 PM) at Esther Shiner Stadium.

It was well accepted that at the end of the regular season, league games scheduled for Saturday September 13 would be all about goals scored and not about the points. Scarborough and Serbian White Eagles were level on points going into the double-header on Saturday at Esther Shiner Stadium.

The Serbian White Eagles opening game against Unity FC from kick off to the final whistle was a one-sided aggressive attacking effort which at the interval brought a 7-0 score. A further four goals in the second half increased the lead for an 11-0 result at the final whistle.

Serbian White Eagles player Nikola Timotijevic scored a hat-trick, Marko Pavicevic struck two as did Nikola Djurkovic. Dejan Koraksic and MD Iqbal Hussain each scored a single.

In the second game of the double-header, Scarborough defeated Aeem 16-0, thus finishing out the Regular Season in first place while our lads finished in second place.

Our next game (the playoff semi-final) is on Sunday September 21 (4:00 PM) at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York against Unity FC.

Our Serbian White Eagles continued its winning way with a 7-1 route of Aeem Canada at Esther Shiner Stadium this past Saturday, September 6.

Marko Pavicevic opened the scoring for Serbian White Eagles, a well-placed header out of reach of Aeem goalkeeper Henry Ssozi for his third goal of the season while Luka Glamcevski made it 2-0 at 15 minutes which was followed by Marko Krasic scoring in the 32nd minute. Damilola Oladipo increased the lead to 4-0 at 37 minutes and Nikola Djurkovic made it 5-0 which was the score at the half-time break.

Aeem defender Francis Chuks was shown the red card following a second caution at 55 minutes and Yohannes Amare, playing on the left wing, scored Aeem’s goal at 58 minutes. This was followed by Krasic scoring his second and third goals for Serbian White Eagles at 65 and 72 minutes for the 7-1 score at the final whistle. With his hat-trick, Krasic now has five goals in the eight regular season games played thus far.

Our next game (the final game of the regular season) is on Saturday September 13 (4:00 PM) at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York against Unity FC.

Serbian White Eagles and Scarborough played to a 1-1 draw in a hard fought, attractive opening game at Esther Shiner Stadium on Saturday.

Scarborough opened the scoring at 12 minutes from a drive on the edge of the penalty area by Devroy Grey, a 1-0 lead at the break. Serbian White Eagles, playing without Tayjon Campbell and Vladimir Strizovic who were both serving suspensions, equalized early in the second half when Iqbal Hussain headed in a cross from the left.

There is no change at the top of the standings with Scarborough holding on to its top position by the narrowest of margins. Both Scarborough and Serbian White Eagles have won five games and have sixteen points – each have tied one game and lost one. The difference is in the goals scored and goals against, with Scarborough’s 21-5 narrowly edging our Serbian White Eagles score of 19-7.

Our Serbian White Eagles recorded a 4-2 win over Aeem Canada this past Saturday putting our team in second position in the table on goal average while tied on points.

Aeem Canada opened the scoring just four minutes after kickoff when Yohannes Amare headed in from a right wing cross. Nikola Timotijevic equalized for Serbian White Eagles at the 20-minute mark and MD Iqbal Hussain scored his first of two goals with a snap left foot drive from 15 yards leaving Aeem goalkeeper Henry Ssoti with no chance making it a 2-1 lead for our Serbian White Eagles. Hussain struck his second goal five minutes later for a 3-1 lead at the interval. Marko Stajic made it 4-1 and Christopher Gilfillian of Aeem Canada completed the scoring for a 4-2 final score in favour of our team.

Our next match is Saturday August 9 (4:00 PM) at Esther Shiner Stadium against Unity FC.

Our team suffered its first loss of the season this past Sunday against Scarborough SC who defeated our club by a score of 1-0.

Forward Gonzalo Matias struck the lone goal and winner for Scarborough, a victory that brought the east Toronto side in a position tied with our Serbian White Eagles at the top of the standings. Our teams is first however thanks to a differential in goals scored.

Serbian White Eagles continued its good form with a 4-1 victory over Unity FC at Esther Shiner Stadium on Sunday. Our team is enjoying a 100 per cent win record following the Royal Cup victories which preceded the three regular league wins in the new season.

Nikola Timotijevic opened the scoring for Serbian White Eagles at the fourth minute mark and Marko Pavicevic made it 2-0 from five yards following a play by Dejan Koraksic and Srdjan Simovic. It was 2-0 at the break. Unity FC rallied in the second half with Erick Hernandez looking strong on attack and Artur Salamanka eventually struck Unity’s only goal at 70 minutes. That was the first goal that our team conceded this season in all competitions. Malcolm Suaza increased the White Eagles lead to 3-1 at 83 minutes and Marko Stajic completed the 4-1 score at 88 minutes.

Our next game is Sunday July 20 (4:00 PM) at Esther Shiner Stadium against Scarborough SC.
